Sean Connery Makes An Appearance

Datasouth Corporate Services is very pleased to have partnered with the Trans-Tasman Business Circle in hosting a gala luncheon on the eve of the final test of the 2005 British and Irish Lion Tour of New Zealand, in Auckland this week.

The event was introduced to some 900 guests by Aarron Spinley of Datasouth Corporate Services and the Master of Ceremonies was none other than "the voice of the BBC", the very irreverent and entertaining Ian Robertson. A tribute introduction was made by Sir Wilson Whineray and a donation made to the Starship Hospital before the legendary Colin Pinetree Meads graced the crowd with his classic dry humour and unique story telling style.

A highlight of the event was the key note speech delivered by Sir Anthony O’Reilly. Other than his exploits on the rugby field for the Irish and the Lions in the 70s, many will know Sir Anthony as Executive Chairman of the Dublin-based Independent News & Media Group and the man who acquired Watties for the H J Heinz company after being told some years earlier by Sir James Wattie to "bugger off".

Amongst a veritable whos who of the local business, sporting and celebrity world, the audience itself was notable for such attendees as the great American boxer George Fraser and world renowned actor Sean Connery. Datasouth Corporate Services looks forward to partnering with the Trans-Tasman Business Circle in more events on both sides of the Tasman.
